3 Main Ways to Get Insurance:
Employer or COBRA
Employer coverage is the most traditional way to get a plan. Cobra is an extension of your existing work plan, with you paying most, if not all, the cost. Depending on the size of the company (and your family), this will either be the most or least expensive option.
ACA/Marketplace
Income-based plans through the state in which you reside. May offer steep discounts depending on your financial situation. Mostly, HMO options are available, which may limit your flexibility for out-of-state coverage.
Private
Health-based plans purchased directly from an insurance company. Discounts and qualifications are based on age, location (i.e., state/zip code), and a series of medical questions to assess risk. Similar to life and/or car insurance.
